- Simple clean lines with lots of open space are suitable for
children as young at two. Paintbrushes are the perfect tool
for practicing motor skills and attention to detail. Staying in
the lines is optional. We reinforce the black lines after the
painting is finished for a sharp professional look.
| Individual lessons and attention |
- We understand kids. We know some need lots of help
deciding every color and brush while others need the
freedom to explore blending and paint a whole new picture
atop their canvas. We encourage it!
- Children learn from those around them and artists are always on-hand.
We teach a simple technique to make their paintings "pop." It takes only
minutes to master and is a great introduction into depth and color layering.
Children are amazed at the results and take pride in their work. Our
Membership program allows frequent sessions without added cost.
| No pressure laid-back environment |
- There are no grades or judgement here. A safe space to experiment and
play with art materials is required for the more sensitive crew. Especially
appealing to teens, art lessons without competition fill a need for
exploration. We are always available for questions and advice, but
understand the need to work it out yourself.
| Product advice |
- A four-year-old with a short attention span and no painting experience
will successfully finish a 4" x 4" flower canvas before running out of
steam, while a fifteen-year-old planning to visit us once a week will take
pride in their custom built stool. We can help you decide what is
appropriate to challenge (but not frustrate) your child and a reasonable
amount of time needed to finish without hurrying. Ask us! We want
your kid to find pride in their work and in themselves and can help by
providing appropriate products.
- High quality paints and brushes are beyond most school (and family)
budgets. Tempera paints are great for posters, but fine art needs
something better. The difference is highly noticeable and children
will immediately see the higher quality of their work. We charge a
studio fee of $5 to cover the paint, brushes, and instruction. Buying
in bulk, teaching responsible use of materials, and sharing art
supplies with many Minneapolis families enables us to offer the best
materials at the lowest possible price.
| Family fun means variety |
- Our large selection of items is just the beginning. We offer a
"budding artist" garden equipped with coloring sheets, markers and
crayons. Games, books, and toys are available for kids who finish
before the others or need a break. Our downstairs gallery features
local artist work for adults to browse. We a located near coffee
shops, snack stands, and a pizza joint. You are always welcome to
bring your own materials as well.
